For all you dreamers and planners out there who are not too tech-savvy, this week’s blog will teach you how to save and organize all those things you love to an idea board on Pinterest. Don’t know what Pinterest is? According to their own website, “Pinterest is a visual discovery engine for finding ideas like recipes, home and style inspiration, and more.” More than 400 million people use it – creating and sharing pins – so there are virtually endless possibilities when it comes to finding ideas for whatever interests you. Just beware of getting sucked into the Pinterest black hole! You can seriously lose entire days of your life.
After creating a Pinterest account (they’ll walk you through how to do that,) you’re going to want to add a Pinterest button to your browser. Don’t worry, it’s easy. Just follow the instructions in the link. Once you have your account and your button set up, you’re good to go!
Let’s create a sample board.
First, click on your profile photo, and you’ll see a plus sign on the right hand side of your screen. It’ll give you the option to create a pin or a board, so click “create board.” For the sake of demonstration, let’s use “Dream Home” as the name of the board.
Now you get to play!
One way to find pins for your idea board is to use the Pinterest search bar and type in whatever you want to search for. In this case, let’s say, “kitchen ideas.”
When you hover over any of these photos, a “save” button will pop up, and you can just click it if you want to save it to your board. You can also click the photo and follow any links provided to read articles or find yet even more photos you can pin to your board.
But wait, there’s more!
The other way to find pins for your boards is to find photos, articles, or websites on the Internet and pin them from there with that Pinterest button you added to your browser. Because you’ve enabled that button, it’s going to show up automatically when you hover. Maybe you’re looking for a residential roofing company for your future dream home, and you really like the roof shown below. Just like on Pinterest, when you hover over the photo, a “save” button will appear.
Click it, and just like that, you can save it to your “Dream Home” board. If you create multiple boards, you can choose which board to pin it to once you click the button. See? Easy-peasy!
If you need a little inspiration, check out this board by Christine Martinez Loya, who has more than 4 million followers. It’s an inspirational board about inspiration!
Now that you’ve learned how to create your first idea board and find your pins, all you need to do is grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and get started!
